Cayman and Shadow, Together Again

Sometimes a family’s own words tell the story better than anything anyone else could write. My heart aches for this family.

Just a month after saying goodbye to Shadow, another beloved member of their family and Cayman’s longtime companion, this family has now had to say goodbye to Cayman as well. Losing a beloved companion is heartbreaking. Having to navigate a second loss while still grieving the first is a burden no family should have to carry. Cayman was deeply loved, and it was clear he was at the center of countless adventures, traditions, and everyday moments that made a house feel like home.

His family shared these beautiful words in his memory:

"Our hearts are broken today as we say goodbye to Cayman. After a courageous

battle with cancer, Cayman passed away at the age of 9½ years old. While we are

devastated by this loss, we find comfort in knowing he is no longer in pain and is

reunited with his brother, Shadow.

Cayman lived life to the fullest. He absolutely loved riding in the Gator - if it was

nearby, you could always count on finding Cayman right beside it, ready for an

adventure. He traveled many miles with us and loved soaking up the sun on the

beaches of the Carolinas, exploring the lakes of Ohio, and enjoying the beauty of

the Northeast mountains. He also loved spending time at the pool, relaxing in the

sunshine and enjoying every moment with his family.

He was the gentlest, most kind-hearted dog you could ever meet. Cayman loved

spending time lounging with his sisters and was happiest when he was surrounded

by the people he loved. There wasn't a meal he didn't enjoy, and if you had

something that smelled good, Cayman was never far away.

One of the things we will miss most was coming home and seeing Cayman waiting

for us on the front stoop. No matter how long we had been gone, he was always

there to greet us with his happy face, wagging tail, and unconditional love. It was

one of the many ways he made our house feel like home.

And of course, one of his favorite things in the world was getting rubbed. The

moment you started petting him, he would immediately flop onto his back, asking

for a belly rub. It was his sweet spot, and it never failed to make us smile.

Today, we have lost more than a pet - we have lost a beloved member of our

family. A piece of our hearts went with him. 2026 has been an incredibly difficult

year for us, but we take comfort in knowing that Cayman is at peace, free from

pain, and once again by Shadow's side.

Run free, sweet boy. Thank you for the memories, the adventures, the greetings at

the door, and the unconditional love. You will be missed beyond words."
