Ruger was the kind of dog who lived life at full speed. He charged headfirst into woods, water, brush piles, muddy fields, and just about every adventure life put in front of him. Whether he was hunting, chasing tennis balls long after everyone else was tired, or simply riding shotgun through everyday life, he was always ready for whatever came next.
He was a devoted hunting partner, a loyal sidekick, and the kind of dog who made himself unforgettable without ever trying. Ruger never seemed to meet a stranger. People, pets, anyone willing to share a moment with him quickly became a friend.
But Ruger’s life was about much more than the outdoors. He stood beside his person through some of the most important years of his life, from nursing school to becoming an ER charge nurse in a trauma center. Through stress, exhaustion, uncertainty, and growth, Ruger remained steady and constant. The dream of giving him room to run and explore became part of the motivation behind building a life and home together on 20 beautiful acres that Ruger could roam freely.
He was accident-prone, stubborn when he felt like it, endlessly kind, and deeply loved. He was a therapist after difficult shifts, a wingman for every adventure, and a best friend through all of it.
His owner wrote that we could all learn something from Ruger: “Never be afraid to dive face first into the unknown, love hard, be stubborn when you need to, and be a great friend.”
I think Ruger lived that lesson better than most people ever will. 🩵
