The Ordinary Moments That Become Everything

Anyone who has loved a pet deeply understands this kind of loss.
It isn’t always the big moments we grieve most, but the ordinary ones we never realized were numbered. The routines, the small gestures, the quiet companionship that fills a home until, suddenly, it doesn’t.
Maggie Mae's owner shared these words after saying goodbye to her. They capture something so many people feel but struggle to put into language. With their permission, we are sharing them here exactly as written, in honor of the love they reflect:
I never knew it would be the last time you'd sleep in my bed with me or on your dog bed at my feet until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time you'd take a treat from my hand until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time we took a walk until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time you gave me kisses on my face until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time I scratched your ears until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time you licked the sweat off my forehead until it was the last time.
I never knew it would be the last time I saw that helicopter tail until it was the last time.
And when it was the last time to see the sparkle in your eyes, hear your breath in my ear, feel your precious heart beating, a piece of me died with you. And the last time my eyes laid lovingly on the stillness of you & that last kiss, those tears will never go away. Instead, they went with you & I hope & pray the memory of you never fades.
I love you so much & you will be forever missed. Cherish every moment with the ones you love. You'll never know if it will be the last time....until it is.
May God Bless & keep you in his loving arms until we meet again my baby girl.
